Says air strikes on Pak delivered results in hours

Urges indigenous defence manufacturing

New Delhi, Jan 21: Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief A P Singh on Wednesday said air power played a central role in Operation Sindoor, enabling the force to achieve its objectives within hours, including strikes on targets in Pakistan.

Addressing the 22nd Subroto Mukerjee Seminar, the Air Chief Marshal, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said recent conflicts show that air power has become the primary instrument for achieving strategic outcomes.

“The IAF demonstrated its capability to plan and execute operations that delivered results in a short timeframe,” he said.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, Singh said air operations allowed India to send a clear message through coordinated strikes on multiple locations across the border. “Such actions underlined the role of air power in responding to security challenges and deterring hostile activity,” he added.

The economic capacity alone cannot ensure national security, the Air Chief said, adding that military capability remains essential. He said history shows that nations with economic strength but limited military preparedness have faced occupation and external pressure.

Singh also referred to air operations carried out for evacuations from conflict zones and strikes against terror infrastructure, saying these missions reflected the flexibility of air power across different scenarios.

He said developments in India’s neighbourhood often shape security responses and require readiness for quick decisions.

Singh called for faster progress on indigenous defence manufacturing and partnerships for advanced engines and weapon systems to support operational requirements.

“The ability to use military power when required is a key factor in national security planning,” the Air Chief said, adding that strengthening air power capabilities should remain a priority to address present and future challenges. (KNO)
