JAMMU, JANUARY 24: To commemorate National Voters’ Day, a District-Level Voters’ Awareness Rally was successfully organized Saturday in Jammu by the Higher Education Department, in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer-J&K.

The rally was flagged off from Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground Jammu and culminated at MAM College, covering a distance of approximately 3.5 kilometres.

About 700 students drawn from the government colleges of Jammu district participated enthusiastically in the event, displaying strong commitment towards democratic values and responsible citizenship.

The rally, as per an official statement, was organized under the national theme “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure”, with the objective of creating awareness among youth—especially first-time voters and women—about the importance of voting and active participation in the democratic process.

Students and faculty from Government College for Women, Parade Ground; MAM College, Jammu; Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu; Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar; SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu; Government College of Education, Jammu; Government Degree College, Akhnoor; Government Degree College, Paloura; Government Degree College, Bishnah; Government Degree College, Kunjwani and Government Degree Sidhra took part in the rally.

At MAM College, Nodal Principal Jammu Dr. Ravender Kumar Tickoo addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of voting as a fundamental democratic right and civic responsibility. He urged students to become informed, ethical and responsible voters and to actively participate in strengthening the democratic fabric of the nation.

Principal MAM College Prof. Archana Kaul also addressed the participants and emphasized the crucial role of youth in shaping the future of democracy. She encouraged students to exercise their franchise conscientiously and to spread voter awareness within their communities.

The event witnessed the active presence and support of principals, faculty members from all participating colleges, NSS Programme Officers, NCC Cadets and student volunteers, who ensured disciplined conduct and smooth coordination throughout the rally.

Participants marched in orderly columns carrying placards and banners displaying messages such as “My Vote, My Right,” “Every Vote Counts,” and “Empowered Voters, Strong Democracy.” Uniform caps with voter awareness slogans added to the visual impact and public outreach of the rally.

The successful organization of the rally reaffirmed the collective commitment of the Higher Education Department, educational institutions, faculty and students towards promoting democratic consciousness, electoral awareness and responsible citizenship among young voters.
