Srinagar, Feb 05: The Union Government on Thursday informed Parliament that over 3.89 lakh pre-matric scholarships and more than 47,000 post-matric scholarships were sanctioned in Jammu and Kashmir during the year 2021–22 under minority welfare schemes.

In a written reply to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Minority Affairs said that 389,132 pre-matric scholarships and 47,574 post-matric scholarships were sanctioned in J&K during the period.

For Ladakh, the government said that 11,884 pre-matric scholarships and 905 post-matric scholarships were sanctioned in 2021–22.

The Ministry said that the pre-matric, post-matric and merit-cum-means scholarship schemes were implemented across the country for the educational empowerment of students belonging to notified minority communities. However, it added that these schemes were not approved for implementation beyond 2021–22.

The government further informed the Parliament that budget allocations and utilisation under the scholarship schemes were made till 2021–22, after which the schemes were discontinued—(KNO)
