Srinagar, Feb 05: The long-awaited Teaching District Hospital at Kheora in Rajouri district, having 180 beds sanctioned under the New Medical College project at a cost of Rs 30 crore, is set to become operational soon, the government informed the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

Replying to a question tabled by MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakina Itoo said, “The construction of a 180-bedded Teaching District Hospital at Kheora, Rajouri, sanctioned at a cost of Rs 30.00 crore under the New Medical College project, has been completed except for Electrical/Mechanical works.”

“For completion of the pending works, an amount of Rs five crore has been released under CAPEX, and the works are presently in progress and are expected to be completed within two months. Upon completion, the hospital shall be made fully functional, resulting in the addition of 180 beds, which will significantly de-congest GMC Rajouri and cater primarily to Mother and Child Health Care services,” she said.

“As of now, no proposal is under active consideration for shifting the Mother and Childcare facility to the old Hospital building. The Department is presently focusing on consolidation and optimal utilization of existing infrastructure and manpower through efficient sharing of resources,” she added.

“However, strengthening of infrastructure and deployment of medical and paramedical staff at GMC Rajouri is being undertaken as per sanctioned norms and availability, in a phased manner,” she said—(KNO)
