Srinagar, Feb 07: A fire incident on Saturday afternoon reduced structures belonging to the Department of Fisheries to ashes at Nehru Park in Gagribal area of Srinagar, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the fire was reported at Ghat No. 18, Gagribal, around 2:26 PM.

Soon, the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Department rushed to the spot, he said, adding that additional reinforcements were also pressed to assist in the operation.

“The firefighters found three tin sheds, belonging to the Central Processing Office (CPO) of the Fisheries Department, engulfed in flames,” the official said.

He said that firefighting operations were promptly initiated, and after sustained efforts, the blaze was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby installations and park areas.

Old furniture, one old motorcycle, lockers containing service records and a 25 kV generator were damaged, he informed.

No loss of life or injuries was reported. “However, the structures were completely gutted before the flames could be contained,” the official said, adding that the cause of the fire is being investigated—(KNO)
