DLSA Srinagar organizes legal awareness programme

SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 10: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, in collaboration with Allen Career Institute, Lal Bazar Srinagar, organized an awareness programme aimed at educating students about the Right to Education, NALSA DAWN (Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation) Scheme 2025, and NALSA Legal Services to Victims of Acid Attack Scheme 2016, under the able guidance of  Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman DLSA  (PD&SJ) Srinagar and overall supervision of Secretary DLSA Srinagar.

During the session, Adv. Sabiya Kousar, Pro-bono Lawyer DLSA, Srinagar, elaborated on the Right to Education Act, emphasizing the importance of free and compulsory education for children and the legal safeguards ensuring access to quality education without discrimination. Students, as per an official statement were encouraged to become aware of their educational rights and the mechanisms available for grievance redressal.

The participants were further sensitized by Adv. Laila Khalid, Panel Lawyer DLSA, Srinagar, about the NALSA DAWN Scheme-2025, highlighting the growing menace of drug abuse among youth and the role of legal services institutions in providing awareness, counseling, rehabilitation support, and legal assistance to affected individuals and their families.

The programme also focused on the NALSA (Legal Services to Victims of Acid Attack) Scheme-2016, by Sehar Nazir, Asst. LADC DLSA, Srinagar, wherein she explained the legal remedies, compensation mechanisms, medical assistance, and rehabilitation measures available for victims of acid attacks. The students were informed about the role of DLSA in providing free legal aid and support to victims in seeking justice.

The management and faculty of Allen Career Institute appreciated the initiative and assured their continued support in spreading legal awareness among students. The programme concluded with an interactive session where students actively participated and raised queries, which were addressed by the resource persons.

DLSA Srinagar reiterated its commitment to spreading legal awareness and ensuring access to justice for all sections of society through such collaborative programs.
