Srinagar, Feb 11: The Government of India on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that 19 posts are lying vacant in Consumer Commissions in Jammu and Kashmir as of December 31, 2025.

In a written reply, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs B.L. Verma said that the vacancies include one President and one Member post in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, besides six President and eleven Member posts in District Consumer Commissions.

The government said that under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, the responsibility for filling these vacancies rests with the respective State or Union Territory administration, and the recruitment process is required to be initiated at least six months before a post falls vacant.

The Centre has been regularly taking up the matter with States and UTs for expeditious filling of vacant posts to ensure timely disposal of consumer cases, the Minister said—(KNO)
