Kashmir parts continue to record 9–11°C above normal temps

Srinagar, Feb 24: Maximum temperatures across Jammu and Kashmir remained significantly above normal on Tuesday, with most places in the Kashmir Valley recording departures of 9 to 11 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

The data, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) indicates that while the Kashmir continued to witness unusually high temperatures for February, parts of Ladakh experienced a cooling trend compared to Monday.

In Srinagar, the summer capital, the maximum temperature settled at 21.0°C, which is 10.0°C above normal — unchanged from Monday. Qazigund also remained steady at 21.2°C, hovering 11.1°C above average, one of the highest departures in the Valley.

Pahalgam recorded a slight rise to 17.6°C from 17.3°C a day earlier, while Kupwara dipped marginally to 20.4°C from 20.6°C. Kokernag saw a drop to 18.4°C compared to Monday’s 19.0°C, though it continued to remain nearly 10°C above normal. Gulmarg held steady at 11.2°C, around 9.2°C above the seasonal average.

In the Jammu division, temperatures showed minor fluctuations. Jammu city recorded 25.3°C, up from 25.0°C on Monday, remaining about 3°C above normal. Banihal rose sharply to 21.4°C from 20.2°C, increasing its positive departure to 8.3°C. Batote also climbed to 19.9°C from 19.4°C.

However, Bhaderwah registered a noticeable fall, dropping to 18.2°C from 20.1°C recorded the previous day. Katra slipped slightly to 24.5°C from 25.0°C.

In the Ladakh region, Leh remained unchanged at 7.0°C, while Kargil saw a significant fall to 7.0°C from 9.3°C recorded on Monday. Nubra Valley also registered a decline, settling at 10.1°C compared to 11.1°C a day earlier.

Meteorological officials have predicted that dry weather conditions will prevail across J&K in the coming days. (KNO)
