Ganderbal, Mar 02: The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) has ordered immediate suspension of snowmobile operations in the meadow areas to prevent environmental degradation.
According to an order, the decision has been taken in the interest of environmental protection and preservation of the eco-fragile meadow, particularly as the natural grass surface has been exposed due to inadequate snowfall and the conclusion of the winter season.
The order states that continued operation of snowmobile bikes was resulting in damage to the meadow area of the tourist destination. “This step is necessitated to prevent further ecological degradation and to ensure the protection and conservation of the environmental integrity of the meadow,” it reads.
The authority has directed all concerned operators, associations and enforcement agencies to ensure strict compliance with the order and its effective implementation in letter and spirit.
It further warned that any violation will invite action under relevant environmental and regulatory provisions in force, including cancellation of permission— (KNO)
