DARS, SKUAST-K conducts awareness programme

BANDIPORA, OCTOBER 16: The Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DA RS), SKUAST-Kashmir Thursday organized a one-day “Awareness Programme-cum-Input Distribution” at the remote village of Shadipora, Bandipora, under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

The event was held under Project No. 01 titled “Development of Seed and Seed Multiplication Chain in PPP Mode” in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.

More than 50 farmers from twin districts of Bandipora and Ganderbal were benefitted by distribution of quality fodder Oats seed for boosting fodder and livestock production in the area.

Professor Agronomy, SKUAST-Kashmir, Dr. Fayaz Ahmed Bahar,  highlighted the role of SKUAST-K in reaching out to the farming community of the valley and importance of fodder oats in sustaining the fodder and milk production of the valley.

The farmers were highly motivated and enthusiastic with this intervention and were guided with scientific technological knowhow of the fodder crop for better yields.

Professor GPB, Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Lone,  and  Senior Scientist, Dr. Altaf Ahmad Wani highlighted the contribution of released varieties in replacement of local landraces and their deployment.

During the event, crop cards of the fodder crop were distributed as ready reference among the farm families and their utilization for enhanced crop yield and desired feedback.

The programme concluded with an interactive session with the farmers with active participation of Agricultural Officers from Subdivision Sumbal and Ganderbal.
