World Food Day 2025 celebrated by SKUAST-K

GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 16: The Division of Community Science, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-Kashmir, commemorated the World Food Day Thursday at Shalimar Campus, in alignment with this year’s global theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.”

The event was chaired by Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, underscored the significance of sustainable food systems, healthy lifestyles, and collective responsibility toward achieving food and nutritional security for all.

He elaborated on the vision for achieving a healthy and food-secure future through scientific innovation, local empowerment, and community participation and reaffirmed SKUAST-K’s commitment to promote Awareness and Action toward realizing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger.

He also addressed the participants to become aware about SDG’s Human Development Indexes, use technology for the betterment of Agriculture and food related challenges.

Speaking at the occasion, Dean, Faculty of Horticulture,  Prof. Neelofar Banday, highlighted the pivotal role of education, research, and innovation in shaping the future of global food systems and achieving food security for all.

Professor & Head, Division of Community Science, Dr. Tabasum Ara,  emphasized the importance of food sustainability, mindful consumption and the need to preserve traditional food wisdom in view of their nutritional and cultural significance.

A booklet titled ‘Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future’, which encapsulates the vision of collaboration, sustainability, innovation in food systems and community empowerment was also released at the event.
