Srinagar, Mar 09: The Government of India on Monday informed the Lok Sabha that thirty-three National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and five extension centers are currently functioning across the country.

Replying to a starred question in the House, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary said that the institutes operate under the Directorate General of Training to provide advanced technical and vocational training to instructors for developing skilled manpower for industry.

As per the official data, Jammu and Kashmir currently has two NSTI facilities, including the National Skill Training Institute for Women in Jammu and an NSTI Extension Centre in Srinagar, aimed at enhancing skill development opportunities in the Union Territory.

The Minister also informed that the Centre is working to strengthen skill infrastructure under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM‑SETU) scheme, which has an approved financial outlay of ₹60,000 crore, including contributions from the Centre, states and industry partners.

The scheme also focuses on capacity augmentation of select NSTIs and establishing Centres of Excellence for skilling in collaboration with industry and global partners, the government said—(KNO)
