Jammu, Mar 11: Kavinder Gupta, Governor of Himachal Pradesh, on Wednesday reiterated his commitment to work towards making the hill state drug-free while promoting organic farming and meaningful youth engagement as key priorities of his tenure.

Gupta, who arrived in Jammu for the first time after taking oath as Governor in Shimla on Tuesday, said addressing the growing menace of drug addiction would be one of the foremost areas of focus during his tenure.

He stressed that collective efforts by the government, civil society and communities are essential to eradicate the problem of substance abuse and safeguard the future of the younger generation. “We must work together to make Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of promoting organic farming across Himachal Pradesh, noting that the state possesses immense potential to emerge as a hub of organic agriculture. He said encouraging organic practices would not only protect the environment but also enhance farmers’ income and strengthen sustainable rural livelihoods.

Highlighting the role of youth in nation-building, Gupta said focused initiatives aimed at youth engagement, skill development and constructive participation in social and economic activities would remain a priority.

He expressed confidence that with coordinated efforts and public participation, the state would continue to progress on the path of sustainable development and social well-being—(KNO)
