Srinagar, Mar 27: The government Friday said that it is in process of tripling the hydroelectric power generation over the next decade.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the concerned minister in the Legislative Assembly informed that a comprehensive road map for the next decade has been drawn and is under implementation. “The UT is on the fast track to triple its installed hydropower capacity by 2035.”

It also said that the UT of J&K has an estimated hydropower potential of around 18000 Megawatts (MWs) out of which around 15000 MWs has been identified.

“Out of the identified potential, 3540.15 MWs (24%) has been harnessed or developed till date. This includes 13 projects of aggregate capacity 1197.4 MWs in the UT sector, 6 projects of aggregate capacity 2250 MW in the Central sector and 12 Projects of aggregate capacity 92.75 MW in the IPP (private) sector,” the government said.

It also informed the house that a capacity addition of around 100-150 MW is expected in the IPP (private) sector during this period.

“Consequently, the total installed hydropower capacity of the UT is expected to reach around 11000 MW by 2035,” the government said. (KNO)
