Free consultations, treatments provided at PHC Surasyar; locals hail initiative

Budgam, Apr 04: The Health Department on Saturday organised a Mega Medical Camp at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Surasyar in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, bringing specialist healthcare services to the doorsteps of people living in rural and far-flung areas.

The camp, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), organised under the supervision of the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Chadoora, witnessed a large turnout of patients from Surasyar and its adjoining villages, who availed free consultations, medical check-ups and treatment.

Specialist services were provided in key departments including Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics and Gynaecology, addressing a wide range of health issues among the rural population.

Officials said the initiative was aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots level and ensuring early diagnosis and timely treatment, particularly for those who face difficulties in accessing specialised care due to distance and financial constraints.

Locals appreciated the effort, stating that such camps not only reduce the burden of travel but also make quality healthcare accessible within their villages.

“We usually have to travel long distances for specialist doctors, which is not always possible. This camp has really helped people like us,” said Mohd Shafi, a resident of Neegu.

Another local from Brenwar Chadoora said, “Such medical camps are a big relief for rural populations. We received proper check-ups and guidance without any hassle. The government should organise more such programmes regularly.”

Health authorities reiterated their commitment to continue organising similar outreach programmes in rural areas to ensure accessible and equitable healthcare services for all sections of society. (KNO)
