Higher Education Dept carries plantation drive across J&K

SRINAGAR, APRIL 07: The Higher Education department carried out a massive plantation drive across Jammu and Kashmir in line with the Green Jammu and Kashmir Mission formally launched by Minister for Education Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo from Jammu.

In alignment with this vision, Directorate of Colleges, as per an official statement, rolled out a comprehensive action plan for implementation of the plantation drive across colleges in Jammu and Kashmir. Under this plan around 10,000 saplings were planned to be planted in around 145 colleges across Jammu and Kashmir with active institutional participation, identification of suitable plantation sites, monitoring mechanisms, and sustained maintenance of saplings to ensure long-term ecological benefits.

At Srinagar, Commissioner Secretary Higher Education department, Ram Niwas Sharma kick started the plantation drive from Amar Singh college here by planting saplings.

As part of the drive, Special Secretary, Higher Education, Shafqat Iqbal and Director Colleges, Dr. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir planted the saplings at Government Degree College Bemina and Government Degree College Women, M.A Road Srinagar.

The approach adopted by the Higher Education department positioned colleges as core drivers of this initiative, linking environmental action with student engagement, thereby contributing to long-term ecological outcomes.

The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and institutional leadership, reinforcing a collective commitment towards environmental protection and sustainable development.
