Srinagar, Oct 20: A total of 33 candidates have filed nominations for the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly constituencies, as the deadline for submissions concluded on Monday.

According to official details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), 20 candidates have submitted nominations for the Budgam seat, while 13 have filed for the 77-Nagrota seat.

For the Budgam seat, National Conference nominee Aga Syed Mehmood, Peoples Democratic Party candidate Aga Muntazir Mehdi, Bharatiya Janata Party’s Aga Syed Mohsin, independent candidates Nazir Ahmad Khan, Muntazir Mohiuddin, Jibran Dar, and Aam Aadmi Party’s Deeba Khan are among the 20 candidates who have filed their nomination papers.

On the last day of filing nominations, candidates from all major political parties submitted their papers before the Returning Officer in Budgam.

NC candidate Aga Syed Mehmood was accompanied by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, several MLAs, and senior party leaders when he submitted his nomination papers.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi was joined by Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra during the filing of his nomination.

Similarly, BJP candidate Aga Syed Mohsin was accompanied by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and MLA Padder-Nagsenai, Sunil Sharma.

For the Nagrota seat, BJP’s Devyani Rana, Panthers Party’s Harshdev Singh, and National Conference’s Shamim Begum are among the 13 candidates who have filed nomination papers.

The election for the Budgam and Nagrota seats is scheduled for November 11, with counting to take place on November 14. The by-poll for the Budgam seat was necessitated after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah vacated it, opting to retain his traditional stronghold of Ganderbal following his dual victory in the 2024 Assembly elections. The Nagrota seat fell vacant due to the demise of BJP leader Devinder Singh Rana in October last year. (KNO)
