Police arrest 8 drug peddlers

Srinagar, Apr 11: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Police achieved major success by arresting eight drug peddlers in separate operations in Anantnag, Baramulla & Budgam and recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

According to a statement, in Shangus, a raid at the residence of Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Gh. Rasool Sheikh resident of Patti Sheikhpora led to the arrest of Riyaz Sheikh and Aadil Latif son of Mohd Latif resident of Doudpora Brah, with recovery of approximately 5.75 kg of Ganja.  Similarly, at Sangam Chowk, Saqib Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Mohd Lone resident of Natipora Sangam, was arrested along with 140 grams of charas. Moreover, a police party during naka checking at Bumzoo KP Road arrested Reyaz Ahmad Mochi son of Ali Mohd Mochi resident of New Colony Mattan alongwith 5.24 kg of charas powder. Besides, in Uttrasoo, a raid at the residence of Ajaz Ahmad Lone son of Gh. Hassan resident of Cheerpora resulted in recovery of 2.225 kg of Ganja.

Additionally, acting on reliable information, a case FIR No. 23/2026 was registered against Gh. Mohidin Sheikh son of Khazir Mohammad Sheikh resident of Manzigam regarding hoarding of contraband substance at his residential house. Accordingly, a search warrant was obtained from the Judicial Magistrate, and in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, a search of his residential tin shed led to the recovery of approximately 17.27 kg of crushed Charas‑like substance (Bhang Bhoosa) and 23 grams of charas pieces.

In Baramulla, police recovered a significant quantity of contraband during investigation of FIR No. 78/2026. Acting on the disclosure of accused Muzaffar Ahmad Dar resident of Hanjiwera, a search was conducted at a tin shed belonging to his brother Mohd Altaf Dar. During the search, a nylon bag containing 4.3Kgs of charas-like substance was recovered.

In Budgam, a police party of Police Post Hardpanzoo arrested a drug peddler identified as Rehan Ahmed Bhat son of Gh Ahmad Bhat resident of Dachan Beerwah. During search, 28 grams of Charas like substance in stick form wrapped in corn husk, was recovered from his possession.

All the accused have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

Police reiterates its firm resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs from society and appeals to the public to cooperate by sharing information related to drug peddling—(KNO)
