DLSA Srinagar promotes legal literacy

SRINAGAR, APRIL 15:  District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, in collaboration with the School Education Department, organized a series of legal awareness programmes Wednesday at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Gulabagh, Srinagar.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman, DLSA Srinagar (Principal District & Sessions Judge), and under the supervision of Tabassum Qadir, Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.

The awareness sessions, as per an official statement, aimed to sensitize students on vital legal issues and to enhance their understanding of their rights and responsibilities.

Adv. Sabiya Kounsar, Pro Bono Lawyer, delivered an informative session on the NALSA (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, 2024, highlighting its key provisions and benefits. She also spoke on Sexual Assault and Child Protection Laws, emphasizing the importance of legal safeguards available to children.

Further, Urba Rashid, Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC), conducted an engaging session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, educating students about workplace dignity, safety, and legal remedies.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, reflecting a keen interest in legal awareness initiatives.

Such programmes are part of the continuous efforts of DLSA Srinagar to promote legal literacy and empower young minds with the knowledge necessary to safeguard their rights and make informed decisions.
