SHOPIAN, APRIL 20: In continuation of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Campaign, a series of awareness programmes were conducted across district with active participation from different departments and educational institutions in Shopian

Health and Wellness Center, GDC Shopian organized an awareness programme focusing on sensitizing students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a culture of healthy and responsible living.

The programme, as per an official statement, began with an address by the Convenor, who highlighted the growing concern of substance abuse among youth and emphasized the importance of awareness, prevention, and collective responsibility.

An expert talk was delivered by Dr. Alamgeer from District Hospital Shopian, who elaborated on the medical and psychological impacts of drug addiction, early warning signs, and the need for timely intervention.

He also informed that District Hospital Shopian has a dedicated  Addiction Treatment Facility providing professional support and treatment to affected individuals.

Similarly, the Department of Horticulture organized pledge ceremonies at fruit plant nurseries in Zainapora and Keegam, where officials and staff reaffirmed their commitment towards building a drug free society and spreading awareness at the grassroots level.

An awareness programme was also held at HSS Kapran, where medical experts delivered informative sessions on drug addiction and its harmful effects.

The speakers highlighted the physical, psychological, and social consequences of substance abuse and urged students to stay vigilant and make informed life choices.

At HS Tekipora, an awareness programme featuring painting and slogan writing activities was held to sensitize students about the dangers of drug abuse.

The creative participation of students helped in effectively conveying strong anti-drug messages.

Similarly, Government Polytechnic College Shopian organized a pledge ceremony wherein students and staff collectively took an oath to stay away from drugs and contribute towards a healthier society.

These activities form part of the district’s sustained efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Campaign to engage communities, especially youth, through awareness, education, and collective responsibility.

At other places, similar awareness activities were held.
