Family thanks Shiv Sena, receives Rs 5 lakh financial assistance

Pahalgam, Apr 21: In a poignant gesture of remembrance and solidarity, Maharashtra ministers led by Sanjay Shirsat and Yogesh Kadam on Tuesday inaugurated a newly constructed house for Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who lost his life during the Pahalgam terror attack while bravely saving tourists last year.

The ceremony, held in the presence of residents and officials, was also joined virtually by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, whose party had pledged support to the bereaved family soon after the tragic incident.

Speaking on the occasion, the ministers, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), underlined that while promises are often made in the aftermath of tragedies, they rarely materialise on the ground. “Many come and make announcements, but implementation is what truly matters. What was promised has been fulfilled promptly,” they said, adding that the initiative reflects commitment rather than symbolism.

They said the gesture was not merely about honouring a martyr but about reinforcing the spirit of communal harmony and shared humanity. “This is about standing together as one, irrespective of religion, and recognising the courage of a young man who sacrificed his life to save others,” they added.

Reiterating confidence in the improving situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the ministers described Kashmir as a peaceful region and encouraged tourists from across the country to visit the Valley. “Kashmir remains a paradise on earth, and such incidents cannot define its essence. People should continue to visit and experience its beauty and hospitality,” the ministers said.

Speaking to KNO, Adil’s father expressed a mix of grief and pride. “We have lost our son, and that pain will never fade. But we are proud that he sacrificed his life while saving others,” he said.

He extended heartfelt gratitude to the Shiv Sena leadership, especially Eknath Shinde, for constructing the house, providing household essentials, and extending financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh.

Adil’s sister also conveyed her appreciation, thanking the party for not only building the house but also for honouring her brother’s sacrifice in a meaningful way.

Meanwhile, locals used the occasion to highlight the need for development in the area.

They demanded that Hapatnard, the native village of the slain youth, be brought onto the tourism map to boost local livelihood opportunities.

Responding to the demand, the visiting ministers assured that they would take up the matter with the concerned authorities. They further suggested that if the proposal materialises, the area could be developed and named in memory of Adil.

The J&K administration has already extended support to the family. The Lieutenant Governor’s administration has provided a government job to Adil’s wife in the fisheries department, while the Waqf Board has offered employment to his brother. (KNO)
