Police foil drug smuggling attempts

Srinagar, May 02: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, police in Baramulla achieved success during naka checking operations, leading to the arrest of three drug peddlers and recovery of contraband substances. Besides, police in Anantnag achieved major breakthrough by arresting second accused in case FIR No. 39/2026.

According to a statement, police station Sheeri during naka checking at Nowpora intercepted an auto-rickshaw bearing registration No. JK05P-4047. During search, approximately 42 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from the driver’s possession. He has been identified as Nasir Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Amin Dar resident of Shalteng Sheeri. Similarly, during naka checking at Nowpora, a vehicle (Mahindra Thar) bearing registration No. JK01AX-2828 was intercepted by Police post Wagoora, with two persons on board. During search, approximately 56 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Faizan Farooq Rather son of Farooq Ahmad Rather resident of Wagoora and Mohd Yaseen Khanday son of Ali Mohammad Khanday resident of Warpora Tangmarg.

In Handwara, a police team from Police Post Zachaldara intercepted a suspicious person at Sultanpora Crossing, Zachaldara. During search, officers recovered Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules from his possession. He has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Dar son of Ab Majeed Dar resident of Badkoot.

All the accused have been arrested and, accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

Moreover, during investigation of case FIR No. 39/2026 registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Srigufwara, Police in Anantnag has achieved another significant breakthrough by apprehending the second accused identified as Abdul Rashid Bhat son of Asadullah Bhat resident of Shitipura, involved in the transportation of a huge quantity of narcotic substance. It is pertinent to mention that during naka/checking at Shalgam Crossing, police party arrested second absconding accused in 110 Kg Ganja haul case and further investigation to establish forward linkages continues.
