DC Bandipora reviews preparedness for implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules 2026

BANDIPORA, MAY 15:  Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, chaired a meeting to review Solid Waste Management and preparedness for implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 in the district.

During the meeting, as per an official statement, detailed deliberations were held regarding the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules in compliance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court. The meeting discussed various measures aimed at strengthening waste management mechanisms across urban and rural areas of the district.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed strict adherence to the Supreme Court directions regarding segregation of waste at source and directed all Block Development Officers and Executive Officers to ensure effective implementation of the same in their respective jurisdictions.

The meeting also discussed issues related to bulk waste generators, awareness campaigns, timely waste collection, and establishment and functioning of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Emphasis was laid on ensuring proper transportation, management, and scientific disposal of solid waste.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officers to intensify awareness activities among the general public regarding source segregation, responsible waste disposal, and reduction in use of non-biodegradable materials. She further stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders for achieving sustainable waste management practices in the district.

The meeting also reviewed directions issued by the Supreme Court regarding constitution of Special Cells for monitoring implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, conduct of inspections, preparation of periodic progress reports, and strengthening enforcement mechanisms.

Among others, Additional District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, CEO MC Bandipora, EO MC Hajin, Block Development Officer Bandipora, and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
