Srinagar, Oct 24: The victorious Rajya Sabha members on Friday vowed to become the voice of Jammu and Kashmir people in the Parliament.

Speaking to the media persons, senior National Conference leader, Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, who won the seat, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “It is a great victory today as the MLAs from NC, Congress, PDP and independents voted in the favour of NC candidates.”

Terming it as a win of NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Choudhary said that it is a rejection of the August 5, 2019 decision.

Another victorious NC candidate, Shami Oberoi  said that he is happy that three seats were won by the NC. “It is unfortunate that we have lost the fourth seat. We will become the voice of J&K people in the Parliament,” he said.

Another winner and senior NC leader Sajad Kichloo thanked Almighty Allah, the leadership of the party including party President, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Vice-President Omar Abdullah and all the 56 MLAs, who cast their votes in his favour.

“I would like to thank the people of Chenab, who stood behind me. The people have come from different parts of the Chenab and Jammu here to celebrate the win. It is a gift for the party and the people of Chenab,” he said, adding that after 1982, Chenab has got a voice in the parliament.

“I want to assure the people that I will serve the cause for which I have been sent to Rajya Sabha. We will strive hard to fight for the Statehood and special status restoration. We will work hard on these issues and expect that we will come up to the expectations of the party and the people,” he said.

BJP leader, Sat Sharma, who won the fourth seat unexpectedly, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national President J PO Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for choosing  him as the candidate.

“I would like to thank the voters for voting in my favour. I will serve the people, nation and the party,” he said, adding that he had talked to all the political parties and had sought votes from them. “I want to thank the four voters, who voted from me today,” he said. (KNO)
