DLSA Reasi organises legal awareness camps

Jammu, May 15: Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Khalil Choudhary (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge) and the able guidance of Secretary Pooja Gupta, District Legal Services Authority Reasi organised an awareness programme focusing on “Surakshit Bachpan, Surakshit Bhavishya” campaign under JAGRITI Scheme, POCSO Act; menace of Drug Abuse and NDPS Act.

The DLSA team consisting of Chief LADC Rashi Baru; Deputy Chief LADC Bhumica Sharma; ALADC Dheeraj Thakur and ALADC Niharika Bamotra coordinated the event.

The Chief LADC sensitized the students to the objectives of the “Surakshit Bachpan, Surakshit Bhavishya” campaign and explained various provisions of the POCSO Act meant for the protection of children from sexual offences. She emphasized the importance of awareness, early reporting and safeguarding child rights.

The speakers also highlighted the need to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and informed the participants about the penalties and legal consequences under the NDPS Act. Students were encouraged to stay away from drugs and adopt a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

Another awareness programme on “Nasha Mukt Bharat” was organized at Government Middle School Garn- Katra by the local PLVs. The Para Legal Volunteers highlighted the importance of leading a healthy and disciplined life and motivated the students to stay away from drugs and other intoxicating substances. They also educated the participants about the social, physical and psychological consequences of drug addiction and stressed the collective responsibility of society in eradicating the menace of drugs.

The participants were further informed about the legal services and assistance available through the Legal Services Institutions.

Another awareness programme on “Save Girl Child” was organized at LAC Channa, Neosi-Mahore by local PLVs. The participants were sensitized to the importance of protecting and educating the girl child and ensuring equal rights and opportunities for girls in society. The speakers highlighted the government welfare schemes and legal provisions aimed at safeguarding the rights and dignity of girl children. The participants were also made aware about the detrimental consequences of gender discrimination, female foeticide, child marriage and the need to promote education and empowerment of girls for building a progressive society.
