Nubra, May 16: Union Minister for Food Processing Industries, Chirag Paswan visited the PMFME-supported unit of Jigmat Gyalson, proprietor of M/s Gyalson Dairy and Food Processing Unit, at Tirith village in Nubra on Saturday.

The unit, supported under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme, is engaged in processing local produce and promoting value addition in the region.

During the visit, the Minister reviewed the functioning of the unit and interacted with Gyalson regarding the progress of the enterprise and the scope for further strengthening processing, packaging, branding and market access for local products.

The Minister also interacted with local entrepreneurs engaged in food processing and allied activities in Nubra.

The entrepreneurs shared their experiences and discussed the role of food processing in promoting self-employment, enterprise development and livelihood opportunities in the region.

The Minister appreciated the efforts of local entrepreneurs in strengthening food processing activities in Ladakh’s difficult terrain. He noted that value addition to local produce can support farmers, youth and women by creating income and employment opportunities in remote areas.

The General Manager, District Industries Centre, Leh, A.G. Zargar, JKAS, along with officials of the department, was also present during the visit.

The visit underscored the Government’s continued focus on strengthening micro food processing enterprises, promoting value addition to local produce, and supporting the development of the food processing sector in Ladakh.
