Srinagar, May 30: Describing the Indian Army as the nation’s “first hope,” General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the elite White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P. K. Mishra on Saturday said that the Army embodies the trust, confidence and sense of security of the people, standing as a steadfast guardian of the nation in times of need.

Addressing newly recruited Agniveers at the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) Regimental Centre at Rangreth here, GOC Mishra, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “You will carry the hopes and trust of millions of Indians as you begin your journey in the Army.”

“The Army of India is not only a force protecting the borders, but also a symbol of trust and security on the people of the country. Whether it is a war, terrorist attack or natural disasters, peace and security are all important,” he said.

Lt Gen Mishra urged the recruits to uphold the force’s glorious legacy with bravery, determination and perseverance. “India’s first hope is the Army of India. From today, you will not only have a rank on your shoulders, but also the hopes and trust of millions of Indians. Your bravery, determination and perseverance will be an inspiration for future generations,” he said.

He said the recruits were set to become part of the prestigious JAKLI Regiment after completing 24 weeks of difficult training.

“You are going to be a part of the JAKLI Regiment after the difficult training of the Agniveers for 24 weeks. Our Regiment’s motto is not only to sacrifice our lives, but to live our lives,” he said.

The White Knight Corps Commander said the recruits were fortunate to join an Army whose legacy of bravery, sacrifice and patriotism was “written in golden words.”

Expressing confidence in the Agniveers, the Army commander said they would take the Army’s glorious legacy to “new heights.”  “I am confident that all of you will take this glorious legacy to new heights,” he said.

Lt Gen Mishra also congratulated and thanked the families of the recruits for supporting and encouraging them to join the Indian Army as Agniveers. “I would also like to congratulate and thank your family for supporting the Army of India and encouraging you to recruit as Agniveers,” he said.

Lt Gen Mishra further prayed for the bright future, good health and successful military journey of the recruits. “I would like to pray to God, Allah, Waheguru and Buddha that your future, your health and your journey in the Army of India will be unparalleled. Once again, best wishes to all of you,” he said.

Notably, the Attestation-cum-passing-out parade of the 7th batch of Agniveers comprising 538 recruits was conducted with full military tradition and grandeur at the JAKLI Regimental Centre in Srinagar on Saturday. (KNO)
