Srinagar, Jun 11: In a significant decision, the J&K government has extended the timeline of central assistance schemes for the one-time settlement of displaced families from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Chhamb, as well as for West Pakistani Refugees (WPRs) settled in J&K.

The Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction has announced the timeline for the scheme of central assistance for one-time settlement of displaced families of PoJK (1947) and Chhamb (1965 & 1971) refugees has been extended from March 31, 2026 to September 30, 2026. The scheme will continue within the approved outlay of Rs 2000 crore, with the stipulation that it shall not extend beyond the sunset date of September 30, 2026.

In another such move, the Ministry of Home Affairs has conveyed its approval for extending the timeline of the scheme providing financial assistance to West Pakistani Refugee families. The deadline has been shifted from March 31, 2026, to March 31, 2027, under the approved outlay of Rs 317.02 crore. The order clearly states that this scheme too will not continue beyond its sunset date of March 31, 2027. KNO
