Police arrest 2 drug peddlers

Srinagar, Jun 15: Continuing its relentless drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Police in Anantnag achieved significant success by apprehending two drug peddlers in separate operations and recovering contraband substances from their possession.

According to a statement, in the first action, a police party from Police Post Sherbagh, while conducting routine naka checking at Sarnal near Pehru Crossing, intercepted a suspicious individual. During search, approximately 1.198 kilograms of charas powder was recovered from his possession. The accused was identified as Shahid Rafiq Nanda son of Rafiq Ahmad Nanda resident of Nandpora, Anantnag. Accordingly, FIR No. 179/2026 has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up.

In another operation, Police Station Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at Kerikadal. The accused was identified as Mohd Shafi Lone son of Ghulam Mohi Din Lone resident of K. Kalan, Bijbehara. During his search, 56 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹6,000 cash believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking were recovered from his possession. In this regard, FIR No. 162/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and further investigation is underway.

J&K Police remains committed to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and urges the general public to continue extending support by sharing information regarding drug peddling and substance abuse in their areas.
