Four drug peddlers arrested; contraband substances seized: Police

Srinagar, Jun 17: In ongoing crackdown against the menace of drugs, J&K Police have arrested 04 drug peddlers in Anantnag, Baramulla & Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

According to a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Achabal, while conducting naka checking near Achabal Garden, intercepted two suspicious individuals identified as Faisal Ahmad Mir, son of Manzoor Ahmad Mir, resident of Jogigund Achabal, and Mukhtar Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir, resident of Shelipora Achabal. During their search, the police recovered approximately 734 grams of charas powder-like substance and 5 grams of charas tikki-like substance from their possession. The accused were immediately taken into custody and the contraband was seized in accordance with legal procedures. In this connection, FIR No. 54/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Achabal, and investigation into the matter is underway.

In Baramulla, J&K Police apprehended a drug peddler during routine naka checking at Kutta Morh, Pattan. A police party headed by ASI Mohd Maqbool was conducting vehicle checking when a Tata Nexon bearing registration No. JK02DS-6738, coming from Baramulla towards Srinagar, was signalled to stop. During checking, the driver identified as Harrison son of Xaviour resident of Jogi Gate, Gujjar Nagar, Jammu, was subjected to personal search. During the search, 14 grams of a brown sugar-like substance concealed in a polythene bag was recovered from his possession. Besides, cash amounting to ₹15,000 was also seized. The accused was arrested on the spot and a case under FIR No. 128/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act has been registered. Further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended destination of the contraband.

In Ganderbal, a surprise naka was established by Police Station Lar at Krishnar-Waliwar Road. During naka checking, a suspicious individual carrying a white polythene bag was observed approaching from Waliwar towards Krishnar. On noticing the police party, he attempted to flee from the spot but was swiftly apprehended by the alert naka party. During the search of the bag, a charas-like substance weighing approximately 2 Kg 172 grams was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Rasool Khan resident of Chunt Waliwar. In this regard, FIR No. 21/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Lar and investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended destination of the recovered contraband.

People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from society. We reassure community members that police will act tough against criminals as per law.
