IEI J&K State Centre celebrates Int’l Women in Engineering Day

Honours outstanding women engineers

Srinagar, Jun 23: Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre on Tuesday celebrated International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) 2026 with a one-day seminar on the theme “Engineering Intelligence” and sub-theme “J&K’s Daughters, Architects of Tomorrow” at its Srinagar Centre.

The programme brought together engineers, academicians, researchers, students, policymakers and industry professionals to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of women engineers towards technological advancement, infrastructure development, innovation and public service.

FIE, Chairman, IEI J&K State Centre, Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat, highlighted the growing role of women engineers in shaping a resilient, innovative and sustainable future. He also emphasized the importance of participating in technical events and encouraged young engineers to obtain membership of IEI as a means of fostering their professional growth and development.

MIE, Honorary Secretary, IEI J&K State Centre, Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi,  provided an overview of the programme and its objectives. A series of interactive sessions were held during the seminar, featuring emerging women engineers, retired engineering pioneers and women leaders from diverse engineering disciplines who shared their experiences, challenges, achievements and insights with the participants.

The valedictory session was graced by   Ahsan Pardesi,  MLA, Lal Chowk Constituency and Dilafrose Qazi, Vice Chairperson, SSM College of Engineering, who lauded the contributions of women engineers and emphasized the need for greater participation of women in engineering professions.

A major highlight of the programme was the presentation of the IEI J&K Women in Engineering Awards 2026 instituted by Institution of Engineers (India), J&K State Centre to recognize outstanding achievements, leadership, innovation and professional excellence among women engineers of Jammu & Kashmir.

Under the Emerging Woman Engineer Award category, Gold Award was conferred upon Dr. Fatima Jalid; Silver Awards upon Er. Hishma and Dr. Janani L.; and Bronze Awards upon Inhas Ashraf and Dr. Neelam Saleem Khan. Under the Woman Engineering Leadership Award category, Gold Award was conferred upon Er. Anbreena Anjum; Silver Award upon Er. Raveeza Din; and Bronze Award upon Er. Hur-e-Yasrab.

Likewise, under the Distinguished Woman Engineer Award category, Gold Award was conferred upon Er. M. Aaquib Sultana Waheed Deva; Silver Award upon Er. Jahan Ara; and Bronze Award upon Er. Nazia Nazir Zahid. The awardees were recognized for their exemplary contributions in the fields of engineering education, research, power systems, water resource management, public infrastructure, healthcare engineering, transportation engineering, information technology, innovation and public service.

Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries congratulated the award recipients and appreciated the initiative of IEI J&K State Centre in creating a platform that celebrates excellence, inspires future generations and highlights the growing contribution of women engineers to nation-building and societal development.
