Srinagar, Jul 02: Several political and religious leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and J&K Peoples Conference leader Imran Raza Ansari, have been invited by the Islamic Republic of Iran to attend the funeral ceremonies of late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei (RA).

According to details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the other invitees from Jammu and Kashmir include senior Shia clerics Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi, Masroor Abbas Ansari and President of Jammu & Kashmir Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Mosavi Al-Safavi.

Mehbooba Mufti is expected to travel to Tehran to pay her respects and offer condolences.

Meanwhile, the office of MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi confirmed to KNO that a formal invitation has been received.

Repeated attempts to contact the other invited leaders from Jammu and Kashmir to ascertain their travel plans and seek their comments on the invitation did not materialize. Either leaders were unavailable for comment or did not respond to calls and messages till the filing of this report. (KNO)
