PMAY-U: Govt completes construction of 29,767 houses

Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir government has said that nearly 40,000 houses has been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) scheme across the Union Territory, of which 29,767 units have been completed, while 1,843 remain non-starters.

The Housing and Urban Development Department detailed the district-wise progress and fund utilisation under both PMAY (Urban) phases, before the Legislative Assembly. This was in response to a question by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz.

About the construction status, the reply states that out of the 39,153 sanctioned houses, 13,995 are at roof level, 3,405 at lintel and 1,843 are yet to start construction.

Budgam leads the UT with 4,805 sanctioned houses, followed by Jammu (3,558), Kathua (2,456) and Pulwama (1,157). Districts with fewer houses include Kishtwar (554) and Shopian (477).

About the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme, the reply mentions: “Under the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), a total of 3,432 beneficiaries have been given subsidies worth rupees 70.82 crore.” The highest disbursement was recorded in Poonch (Rs 18.08 crore), followed by Kupwara (Rs 12.75 crore) and Bandipora (Rs 12.25 crore).

About PMAY-U 2.0 sanctions, the reply states that under the second phase (PMAY-U 2.0), the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has sanctioned 1,250 dwelling units, including 206 in Kupwara, 231 in Kishtwar and 119 in Anantnag.

Additionally, 1,272 flats have been approved under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) vertical—60 EWS flats at Bhalwal, Jammu and 304 at Chakhar Sundli, and Udhampur, where verification of beneficiaries is underway.

On financial assistance, it states: “Under PMAY-U 1.0, the government has disbursed rupees 518.29 crore in financial aid, benefiting 35,923 beneficiaries so far.” However, 3,230 beneficiaries are yet to receive their entitled assistance. Kathua district alone has received rupees 40.13 crore, followed by Jammu (Rs 36.74 crore) and Budgam (Rs 22.51 crore).

The reply added that funds for PMAY-U 2.0 have not yet been released by the Ministry and the first instalment will be disbursed only after construction begins—(KNO)
