Srinagar, Jul 16: Delhi Court on Thursday allowed jailed Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to attend the Monsoon Session of Parliament in custody, permitting him to participate in the proceedings on all sitting days.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is scheduled to commence on July 20 and continue until August 13.

The court allowed the application and directed that the Lok Sabha member be taken to Parliament under police escort. Special Judge (NIA) Prashant Sharma was hearing Er Rashid’s plea.

Engineer Rashid, who is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a terror funding case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency, had sought custody parole on the ground that he is an elected Member of Parliament and should be allowed to discharge his parliamentary responsibilities.

Pertinently, the Awami Ittehad Party chief has previously been granted interim bail and custody parole on limited occasions, including attending Parliament session and his father’s last rites—(KNO)
