Credit consistency, strong fundamentals, unwavering parental support for success despite financial hardships
Srinagar, Jul 17: In a remarkable display of determination and resilience, two sons of daily-wage labourers from south Kashmir have qualified the prestigious NEET-UG 2026 examination, proving that hard work, consistency and family support can overcome even the toughest financial challenges.
Their success has become a source of inspiration for hundreds of aspiring students across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds who dream of pursuing careers in medicine.
One of the successful candidates, Mehran Amin from Batagund village in Verinag, Anantnag district, secured 610 marks and achieved an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 7,000 in one of the country’s toughest medical entrance examinations.
Born into a humble family, Mehran prepared for the examination with unwavering dedication despite financial constraints. His achievement has brought immense pride not only to his family but also to the entire Verinag area, where residents have hailed his success as an example of what determination and perseverance can accomplish.
Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mehran reflected on his journey, saying life is full of ups and downs, but one should never lose patience or deviate from one’s goals.
“There are many difficult phases in life and sometimes circumstances are not in your favour. But if you remain patient, stay focused and continue working hard, success will eventually come. Consistency is the key to achieving any goal,” he said.
Expressing his desire to become a doctor, Mehran said the medical profession is one of the noblest careers as it provides an opportunity to serve humanity while earning dignity and respect.
“Being a doctor is not only about earning a livelihood; it is about helping people, especially those who cannot afford proper healthcare. That is what motivates me,” he added.
Residents of Batagund congratulated the young achiever, saying his success has inspired students from rural areas to dream big regardless of their economic background.
Shariq Muzaffar, son of a daily-wage labourer from Manihal village in Shopian district, also scripted an inspiring success story by securing 601 marks out of 720 in NEET-UG 2026.
His achievement has been widely celebrated in his native village, where neighbours and well-wishers congratulated the family for their perseverance and sacrifices.
Sharing his preparation strategy, Shariq advised future NEET aspirants to focus on building strong conceptual understanding rather than relying on shortcuts.
“The first step is to clear your basics in every subject. Once your foundation is strong, everything else becomes easier. Never lose hope, remain consistent and trust the process. Success doesn’t come overnight, but continuous hard work always pays off,” he said.
Recalling his academic journey, Shariq said he was only an average student until Class 10, but later realised the importance of disciplined study and determined effort.
“I was an average student till Class 10. After that, I started working seriously towards my goal. I could not clear NEET in my first attempt, but instead of giving up, I learnt from my mistakes, took a drop year, worked even harder and finally succeeded in my second attempt,” he said.
Shariq credited his mother for standing by him throughout his journey and providing constant encouragement during difficult times.
“My mother supported me in every situation. Her sacrifices, motivation and belief in me gave me the strength to continue even when things became difficult,” he said.
He also highlighted the indispensable role parents play in a student’s success.
“The support and encouragement of parents is equally important. Their sacrifices inspire us to keep moving forward and never give up, even during challenging times,” Shariq added. (KNO)
