Srinagar, Oct 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has revealed that a total of 2,872 domestic violence cases have been registered in the Union Territory over the last two financial years.

According to an official reply tabled in the J&K Legislative Assembly to unstarred question raised by MLA Shamim Firdous, the Social Welfare Department stated that these cases were recorded through One Stop Centres (OSCs) for women operating under the Mission Shakti initiative.

The government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), informed that the One Stop Centres, also known as Sakhi Centres, have been functional across J&K since 2018. These centres provide integrated support to women in distress, including medical aid, psycho-social counselling, legal assistance, temporary shelter, and police support.

The reply mentioned that these centres are linked with the 181 Women Helpline Service and 122 ERSS, ensuring prompt coordination and response for women facing violence or harassment.

The official data shows that 893 cases of domestic violence were registered in FY 2023–24, while the number sharply rose to 1,979 cases in FY 2024–25.

The department added that the OSCs primarily handle cases of domestic violence, cyber harassment, eve teasing, sexual harassment and rape, providing safety and security to women across the UT. (KNO)
