SHOPIAN, JULY 30: Social Welfare Department (SWD), Shopian, Thursday organized a comprehensive sensitization and awareness programme for senior citizens and members of Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) at Chitragam Kalan under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY).
The programme aimed to create awareness about welfare initiatives for senior citizens and ensure that eligible beneficiaries are able to access government schemes and services with ease.
During the programme, officials sensitized participants about various Central and UT-sponsored welfare schemes, including the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), Ayushman Bharat–PMJAY, Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) for assistive devices, and the National Elderline Helpline (14567) for guidance, legal aid, and grievance redressal.
Speakers highlighted the importance of ensuring dignity, healthcare, financial security and social protection for senior citizens. They urged participants to spread awareness within their communities so that every eligible elderly person can avail the benefits of government welfare programmes without difficulty.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior citizens, community representatives and officials of the Social Welfare Department. Participants appreciated the department for organizing the informative outreach programme and reaffirmed their commitment to disseminating awareness about the welfare schemes among the public.
