67.4 lakh beneficiaries received free ration

Srinagar, Oct 31: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday revealed that over 67 lakh beneficiaries have been provided free ration across the Union Territory since March 2025 under the Free Ration Scheme. However, no free gas cylinders were distributed during the same period, it said.

In response to a question by MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma said a total of 67,40,632 beneficiaries were covered under the scheme, including 29,76,027 in Jammu Division and 37,64,605 in Kashmir Division.

According to the district-wise breakup, Jammu recorded the highest number of beneficiaries in the division at 6,11,835, followed by Rajouri with 4,15,756 and Kathua with 3,72,672. In Kashmir Division, Baramulla topped the list with 5,78,106 beneficiaries, followed closely by Anantnag with 5,76,943 and Kupwara with 5,20,224.

The figures also show that Srinagar district had 5,09,787 beneficiaries, while the lowest number was recorded in Shopian with 1,63,533.

The government clarified that no free gas cylinders were issued to any beneficiary in Jammu and Kashmir during the said period—(KNO)
