DLSA Ganderbal commences 3-day training programme for community mediators

GANDERBAL, AUGUST 03:  District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal Monday commenced a Three-Day Training Programme for newly selected Community Mediators at the Conference Hall, District Court Complex, Ganderbal.

The programme is being conducted from 3rd to 5th August, 2026 under the NALSA SOP on Community Mediation Towards Litigation Free Rural India.

The inaugural session, as per an official statement, was attended by Abdul Nasir, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Ganderbal, and  Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, besides trained mediators, newly selected Community Mediators as well as Para Legal Volunteers.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman, DLSA Ganderbal, stressed upon the growing importance of mediation in the justice delivery system and encouraged the participants to actively engage in the training programme so that they could effectively serve their communities as impartial and competent mediators in community Mediation.

Secretary, DLSA Ganderbal, emphasized the importance of community mediation as an effective, accessible and people-centric mechanism for amicable settlement of disputes at the grassroots level especially in rural areas. He highlighted that trained Community Mediators would play a significant role in strengthening access to justice, fostering social harmony and reducing avoidable litigation as well as providing training to the newly selected Community Mediators as per Community Mediation Training Manual.

The training sessions on the first day were conducted strictly in accordance with the NALSA Community Mediation Training Manual and the NALSA Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on Community Mediation Towards Litigation Free Rural India.

The participants were imparted comprehensive training on the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, the Mediation Act, 2023, communication and negotiation skills, vision and objectives of community mediation, basic principles of mediation and disputes suitable for resolution through community mediation. The sessions were delivered by experienced trained mediators through interactive lectures and practical discussions in conformity with the prescribed training curriculum.

The three-day programme will continue focusing on practical sessions, ethical standards, procedural aspects, case studies, demonstrations and interactive discussions aimed at equipping the proposed Community Mediators with the requisite knowledge and skills for effective community-based dispute resolution in rural areas, thereby advancing the objective of a Litigation Free Rural India.
