Ministers, CM’s Advisor, DCs to lead celebrations across districts

Srinagar, Aug 03: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will preside over and take the salute at the main Independence Day function to be held at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar.

According to a communiqué issued to divisional commissioners by the General Administration Department, a copy of which is in possession of news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Chief Minister will lead the proceedings in the summer capital.

As per details, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary will take the salute at the main Independence Day function in Jammu, while Sakina Masood Itoo will preside over the event in Anantnag.

Cabinet ministers Javid Rana, Javid Dar, and Satish Sharma will respectively take the salute at Independence Day functions in Poonch, Baramulla, and Kathua.

Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, who holds cabinet status, will take the salute at the main Independence Day function in Kupwara, his home district. This will be the first time since his appointment that the Advisor to the Chief Minister will preside over an Independence Day function.

According to the communique, deputy commissioners will take the salute in 13 other districts, apart from those where ministers will preside over the functions.

Sub-divisional magistrates will take the salute at respective sub-divisional headquarters, while tehsildars or the senior-most civil officers will preside at tehsil, block, and municipal headquarters, as decided by the concerned deputy commissioner. (KNO)
