Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan : CBC concludes 2-day outreach programme in Kokernag

Kokernag (Anantnag), August 6: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, Thursday concluded its two-day Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Government Model Higher Secondary School (GMHSS), Kokernag, Anantnag.

The awareness programme, as per PIB statement, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, parents, government officials and members of the local community. Through expert lectures, exhibitions and cultural activities, the programme sought to create awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and promote a drug-free society.

The concluding session was presided over by Basaarat Choudhary, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) and Station House Officer, Kokernag. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samreen Rasool highlighted the serious health consequences of substance abuse, including drug overdose, cardiovascular diseases and infections caused by unsafe practices. She emphasised the need for parents and teachers to identify early warning signs such as bullying, emotional distress and academic pressure among children.

Rameez Chowdhary, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, delivered a presentation on the counselling, rehabilitation and psychosocial support services available for individuals affected by substance abuse. Mohammad Iqbal, Zonal Education Officer, Kokernag, and Naveed Gul, Educator, Department of School Education, also addressed the participants, stressing the importance of awareness, prevention and community participation in combating drug abuse.

The programme featured an exhibition on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, expert lectures, presentations, theme-based cultural performances and competitions in speech, painting and quiz, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students.

In his concluding remarks, Shahid Mohammad Lone, Field Publicity Officer, CBC, informed that the outreach campaign would continue with a similar awareness programme in Bandipora district next week as part of CBC’s sustained efforts to spread awareness against substance abuse across Jammu and Kashmir.
