Div Com inspects Bakshi Stadium preparations, directs close coordination among depts

Srinagar, Aug 11: Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) Kashmir Anshul Garg on Tuesday inspected preparations at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, the main venue for Independence Day celebrations, as security has been stepped up across the city ahead of August 15.

During his visit, the Div Com reviewed arrangements, including seating, the Public Address System, overhead covering of stands and adherence to protocol during the singing of the National Song followed by the National Anthem.

Garg, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), directed the officers to ensure complete preparedness of contingents from schools, colleges and the Sports Council and their enthusiastic participation in the ceremonial proceedings.

In view of the possibility of rainfall, he directed the Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), to ensure an effective dewatering mechanism at the venue and keep the Fire & Emergency dewatering pump operational. The officials were directed to ensure proper floral decoration of the podium and operational readiness of all seven LED screens installed at the stadium.

The Divisional Commissioner stressed close coordination among all concerned departments and directed that all arrangements be completed well in advance for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

The inspection was attended by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Commissioner SMC, ADC Srinagar, Joint Director Information and senior officers from R&B, PHE, School Education, Higher Education, Fire & Emergency, Hospitality & Protocol, KPDCL, UEED, Youth Services and Sports and other concerned departments. IGP Kashmir and senior officers of police and security agencies were also present.

Meanwhile, a heightened security grid has been put in place across Kashmir to ensure peaceful Independence Day celebrations. Special contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police have been deployed around Bakshi Stadium, the main venue for the I-Day function.

Security forces also conducted surprise frisking and checking of pedestrians, shops and vehicles in Lal Chowk as part of intensified security measures ahead of August 15. (KNO)
