Jammu, Nov 01: In a major action against ticketless and irregular travel, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway collected approximately Rs 67 lakh in fines during October 2025, penalising 11,386 passengers, officials said on Saturday.

The ticket checking campaign was carried out under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Vivek Kumar and supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr. DCM) Uchit Singhal, with ticket checking teams and Chief Ticket Inspectors conducting regular and surprise inspections at stations and onboard trains.

Officials said the drive aimed to ensure safe and comfortable travel for genuine passengers while curbing unauthorized travel. “These checks help maintain discipline, improve passenger comfort and strengthen the railway’s financial health,” Sr. DCM Uchit Singhal said, appreciating the efforts of the staff.

Officials said, as part of the ongoing campaign, a special ticket checking drive was launched during the festive season. In just 10 days leading up to October 26, the division fined 2,500 ticketless passengers, collecting around Rs 32 lakh. This marks one of the highest festive season recoveries since the formation of the Jammu Division in 2025.

Railway officials urged passengers to travel with valid tickets and make use of digital ticketing platforms like UTS Mobile App and online booking systems to avoid inconvenience and penalties. Surprise checks will continue across the division to deter fare evasion, they said.

The Jammu Division, formed earlier this year, has intensified efforts to enhance passenger services while maintaining strict vigilance on irregular travel, marking a strong beginning in revenue generation and enforcement—(KNO)
