DODA, NOVEMBER 3: In a significant step towards improving regional connectivity and providing faster travel options to the people here, the much-awaited helicopter service from Doda to Jammu was officially inaugurated Monday.

The service aims to bridge the gap between remote mountainous districts and the capital city of Jammu, ensuring affordable, safe and time-efficient travel for the residents.

The inaugural event was attended by the District Development Council (DDC) Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal and the Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh. They appreciated the initiative, describing it as a milestone that will greatly benefit the people of Doda by enhancing mobility and emergency response. The fare for a one-way ticket has been fixed at ₹2500 per person, making the service accessible and affordable for all sections of society.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said “The administration has been continuously working to enhance connectivity in this hilly region. With the start of the Doda–Jammu helicopter service, residents now have a reliable and quick mode of transport, especially during emergencies or harsh weather conditions. We are also committed to ensuring that this facility operates smoothly and benefits the maximum number of people.”

While interacting with the media, the DC Harvinder Singh informed that the District Administration Doda has established an Information Cell in the DC Office Complex to assist passengers in making bookings, obtaining information about flight schedules and other travel-related queries.

Similarly, passengers traveling from Jammu to Doda can contact the Directorate of Tourism Office for detailed information and assistance, he said and added that the fare has been subsidized to ensure affordability for the general public and promote greater accessibility for all travelers.

During the launch event, three passengers arriving from Jammu to Doda on the inaugural flight were warmly received by the district administration. They expressed their happiness and satisfaction, sharing that the experience was comfortable, safe and a welcome convenience compared to the long road journey.

The introduction of helicopter service has been widely welcomed by local residents, who expressed their gratitude to the administration for making air travel affordable and accessible. The launch marks a new chapter in Doda’s connectivity, symbolizing the government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure, promoting regional development and bringing essential services closer to the people.
