Day temp remains above normal; Sgr records 30.5°C, Jmu 34.3°C
Srinagar, Aug 24: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness generally hot and humid weather over the coming days, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers at scattered places, the Meteorological Centre here said on Monday.
According to the latest forecast accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) brief spells of rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered places during the early morning and afternoon hours between August 25 and 28.
The weather activity is expected to increase slightly from August 29 to 31, when light to moderate rain and thundershowers may occur at scattered to many places, with brief intense showers possible during the early morning and afternoon hours.
The MeT said hot and humid conditions are likely to continue from September 1 to 2, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers at scattered places. Between September 3 and 5, similar weather is expected, though rainfall activity is likely to remain confined to isolated places.
The weather office cautioned that brief intense showers at localised places could trigger flash floods, mudslides and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.
TEMPERATURES REMAIN ABOVE NORMAL
Meanwhile, temperatures remained largely above normal at several places in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.5 degrees Celsius against a normal of 29.3 degrees, while the minimum temperature settled at 16.4 degrees.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 29.8 degrees and a minimum of 14 degrees, while Pahalgam recorded 25 degrees and 11.7 degrees, respectively.
In North Kashmir, Kupwara recorded a maximum of 30.2 degrees and a minimum of 14.8 degrees. Kokernag recorded 28.4 degrees during the day, while its minimum temperature was 14.2 degrees.
Gulmarg, meanwhile, remained cooler with a maximum of 21 degrees and a minimum of 9 degrees.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3 degrees and a minimum of 24.2 degrees. Katra recorded 32.5 degrees during the day, while Banihal recorded 29.5 degrees.
The weather office advised farmers that harvesting and other agricultural operations could continue, while urging people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious during intense rainfall spells. (KNO)
