Tangmarg, Aug 25: Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar on Tuesday said that Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up to implement the revised Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme and is awaiting the Government of India’s approval.

The Minister said the revised policy is currently under review by the Centre, while an advisory committee constituted in this regard has submitted its report to the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.

He said the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had assured him during a recent ICR conference that the revised policy would be implemented in the coming days.

“Once we get the go ahead, we will implement the scheme here. We have already made provision for it in the budget,” the Minister said.

He said the government was focusing on areas with high potential in fruit and vegetable production and would deploy officers who believe in a strong work culture in such areas.

“Wherever there is potential, be it fruit or vegetables, we are making it possible to post officers who believe in work culture. We are on it,” he said.

The Minister said the move is aimed at strengthening agriculture and horticulture activities in potential-rich areas and ensuring focused administrative support for farmers and growers—(KNO)
