DC reviews cooperative initiatives in 6th DCDC meeting

KUPWARA, NOVEMBER 04: The 6th District Level Cooperative Development Committee (DCDC) meeting was Tuesday convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Kupwara, district officers and representatives from various cooperative institutions.

At the outset, the Deputy Registrar Cooperatives, Adnan Nazir briefed the committee about the overall functioning and achievements of the Cooperative Department in the district.

He informed that special emphasis is being laid on the revival of dormant cooperative societies and that a silent revolution in milk cooperatives is underway under the umbrella of JKMPCL, aimed at strengthening the rural economy. It was further informed that Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Units (FPUs) are receiving financial support under various government schemes to promote rural entrepreneurship and employment generation.

During the meeting, the committee approved the establishment of an FPU in MPCS Kanthpora for setting up a bakery unit. The Chair was also apprised about the completion of works at the Cooperative Super Bazar Kupwara and the ongoing progress on the world’s largest grain storage project at Turkpora.

The Deputy Commissioner issued several directions to the concerned officers, including coordinating with the executive agency for early operationalization of the Sogam Super Bazar, making fair price shops functional at the Cooperative Super Bazar Kupwara, providing space to NRLM-affiliated societies within the Super Bazar premises, submitting a comprehensive report on defunct cooperative societies, and ensuring timely completion of the Grain Storage Project at Turkpora. He also directed the opening of new PACS PM Jan Aushadhi Kendras for the benefit of patients.

Appreciating the efforts of the Cooperative Department, the DC emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination and collective efforts to revive the cooperative movement and empower the rural economy of Kupwara district. He urged all stakeholders to align their efforts toward strengthening the cooperative sector as a sustainable model for local economic growth and self-reliance.

The meeting was attended by ADDC kupwara, Mufti Fareed ud Din; ACD, CHO, AD Fisheries BDOs, DDM NABARD and other officers from Cooperative Department.
