SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 30: An amount of Rs 3 crore has been released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for extending relief assistance in the affected areas of Budgam district, including Beerwah Constituency.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary while replying to a Calling Attention raised by MLA Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani regarding the plight of people affected by the recent flash floods in Beerwah constituency.
The Dy CM, as per an official statement, informed the House that in respect of the flood-related death case reported from the constituency, ex-gratia compensation amounting Rs 4 Lakh has been recommended for release to the legal heirs of the deceased, as per applicable SDRF norms. He also informed that as per reports a double-storey shopping complex comprising twenty-nine (29) shops, along with one residential shed, was damaged/washed away in the floods at Qasba Beerwah.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the concerned departments (PWD-R&B, Municipal committee, Revenue and other concerned departments have made certain preliminary assessment(s) and land title and final assessment of losses/damage regarding the structure is under process.
Surinder Choudhary informed that a detailed assessment of crop and horticulture damage in Beerwah Constituency has also been carried out by the Agriculture Production Department. He informed that a total crop damage of 5 hectares, comprising 3.15 hectares of Paddy, 1.65 hectares of Vegetables and 0.20 hectares of Maize besides, horticulture damage over an area of 0.334 hectares affecting 7 orchardists, with claims amounting Rs. 30,000/-, has been reported and compensation in respect of these losses shall be extended as per the applicable norms.
He said that the District SDRF Committee has assessed the damage to roads, bridges and culverts in the R&B Division, Beerwah and recommended a fund requirement of Rs. 1,092.92 lakh for their restoration. Further, an amount of Rs. 11.41 Lakh has been recommended for restoration of the 33 KV Ahmad Pora-Beerwah power transmission line under Sub Transmission Division-II, KPDCL, Rajbagh, Srinagar.
