Says NC to present new constitution after working committee approval

Srinagar, Oct 05: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court’s notice Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Election Commission and two other Election Commissioners and expressed hope that the court would address the shortcomings.

Speaking to reporters after a party meeting, Abdullah, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said he was pleased that the top court had taken cognisance of the matter.

“I am very happy that the Supreme Court has taken notice of this. I hope it will examine the issue and rectify the shortcomings,” he said.

Abdullah said the meeting focused on strengthening the party organisation and identifying areas that required attention.

“We met the eight MLAs from Srinagar, MLA presidents and party workers to discuss organisational shortcomings and ways to address them,” he said.

On the party’s constitution, Abdullah said the draft would first be discussed with the concerned members before being placed before the working committee for approval.

“We will present the new constitution to them and then place it before the working committee,” he said.

He said the exercise was part of the party’s broader efforts to strengthen its organisational structure and improve functioning. (KNO)
