BSF woman constable dies after gunshot injury at Border Post

Jammu, Oct 07: A 27-year-old woman constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) died after suffering a gunshot injury from her service rifle at a border post in the R S Pura sector of Jammu on Wednesday.

An official said constable Raj Lakshmi sustained the gunshot injury at Border Outpost (BOP) Sushil at around 3 pm. She was initially taken to the Sub-District Hospital, R S Pura, and was subsequently referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu, for specialised treatment, where doctors declared her “brought dead.”

The deceased was posted with the 7th Battalion BSF at BOP Sushil in the R S Pura area. She was the daughter of Balamurugan G and hailed from Tamil Nadu.

Her body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination and other legal formalities.

The circumstances leading to the gunshot injury are yet to be ascertained. Officials said it was premature to conclude whether the weapon was fired accidentally or otherwise.

Police Station R S Pura was informed through PCR Jammu, and further investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the incident—(KNO)
